Willy DeVille and Mark Knopfler - Miracle

In 1987 Dire Straits were on hiatus. Mark closed the Brothers in Arms Tour exhausted so the future for the band was a bit uncertain. During this period, Knopfler collaborated with a lot of artists, always big names, with different styles. One of the most and remarkable collaborations is Miracle, the first Willy DeVille record using his own name. Knopfler was there as producer and session musician. That means that we can enjoy Mark´s guitar technique working for another musici

What If... Sailing To Philadelphia Deluxe Edition

During these Christmas days.. can you imagine a better gift than a Deluxe Edition of any Mark Knopfler´s past released albums? I like this kind of experiments... for a lot of fans, Sailing To Philadelphia is the best solo work from MK but as you may know, labels are not very active with our favorite musician in terms of reviewing the past... and you spend the Christmas days seeing other artists´ releases, with lots of bonus stuff on them... so... What about doing our own STP

    Dire Straits 1977 - 1993

This japanese CD is one of the most sought after in the Dire Straits / MK world. Released in 1991, only a few copies were made. Everything around this item is very exclusive and I´m going to try to explain a bit here. Of course, the artwork is the first thing it surprises. It´s the On Every Street cover but with a photo of Mark Knopfler from the Knebworth concert in the central part, with the red fade as the original OES artwork. The original font from the record is not repro

    John Illsley 80s Deep Cuts

John Illsley has done several solo records in his career, mainly in the 2000s. Only two came during his Dire Straits years. Also a band called K. Wallis B. And The Dark Shades Of Night put out an EP in 1987. This was, of course, another work of John. Never Told a Soul was released in 1984. With Dire Straits musicians as core band, Mark Knopfler had a prominent appearance on guitar, sharing duties with session ace Phil Palmer (later playing on Dire Straits On Every Street reco

The Mark Knopfler Bonus Tracks (Updated)

With Down The Road Wherever out in the market for more than a year I think it´s time to update this useful list. Like it happened with his latests albums, it came out in a few different editions and formats and this implies a few tracks exclusive to some of them. In the past, we had the always nice CD singles to give space to the B-sides, so usually the tracks that did not pass the artist (or label) cut to make into the album where placed on those CDs. With different artwork,

EC is God. But he always searches on earth to recruit guitarists for his band. Since his early career EC always wanted to have the best rising talents to push him to be a better guitar player as he often remarks. This is what happened in the mid 80s, when Knopfler was one of the most considered guitar players because his work with Dire Straits but also with an amount of collaborations with other musicians in his by then short career, like Bob Dylan, Brian Ferry or Chet Atkins

Bob Dylan And Mark Knopfler b-sides and outtakes

Bob Dylan and Mark Knopfler started collaborating back in 1979. Since then, Knopfler appeared on three Dylan Records: Slow Train Coming (1979), Infidels (1983) and Down In The Groove (1988). They met on stage in Australia in early 1986. Dylan joined Dire Straits and Knopfler joined Tom Petty and Dylan to play some classics from Bob´s catalogue. In 2011 and 2012, MK and His Band joined Bob Dylan on tour in Europe and USA, opening for him. Also, Knopfler joined Bob´s band to pl

Brothers In Arms LP vs CD

When Dire Straits released Brothers In Arms in 1985 it became the main Compact Disc promotion item. The technology was ready for a full market launch and Philips sponsored the Brothers In Arms Tour in order to give a worldwide spotlight to CD. Brothers in Arms was, of course, launched in the other traditional formats, vinyl and cassette. But because of the space available on vinyl some of the songs featured on the vinyl and the cassette were shorter than their versions on the
